Handcrafting in Zero Gravity: Reinventing the Spindle as an Artistic Intervention in Space Research
SessionTechne & Tradition
DescriptionAchieving diversity in techno-scientific research is a major theme in today's discourses. However, earlier tendencies continue in practice. The inclusion of people from diverse backgrounds is increasing, but their situated knowledges are not called upon in defining research agendas. The art project Reinventing the Spindle is an exploration of zero gravity textile crafting as a basis for a larger conversation about the politics of space exploration driven by colonial legacies.
