Biography
I am professor for Computer Graphics at TU Dortmund University, Germany (since 2020). From 2008 to 2020 I was professor for Computer Graphics at Bielefeld University, Germany. I received my MSc in mathematics from the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg in 1999, my PhD in computer science from RWTH Aachen in 2005, and did my post-doc studies at ETH Zurich (2005-2008).
The focus of my research is on geometry processing. I am working on the efficient acquisition and reconstruction of geometric objects; on mesh optimization and simplification; and on animation and physics-based simulation of dynamic objects. In recent years I focused on 3D-scanning and motion-capturing of humans, modeling and animation of virtual avatars, and real-time visualisation in interactive virtual reality scenarios.
