Sophie Cherry
Biography
Sophie started her VFX career on the TV show 'Spartacus'. She first joined Wētā FX in 2013 to work as a production coordinator on Peter Jackson’s 'The Hobbit' trilogy as well as on 'Godzilla' and 'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes'.
She moved to Vancouver and worked as an Associate VFX Producer for Zoic Studios on a number of episodic projects such as Netflix’s 'A Series of Unfortunate Events' and 'The Get Down' as well as Fox’s 'Prison Break'.
She worked on two MARVEL films, 'Ant-Man and the Wasp' and 'Thor: Ragnarok' for Method Studios and at Psyop on iconic series 'The Walking Dead', 'X-Files', and 'The Man in the High Castle'.
Re-joining Wētā FX in 2018 Sophie was Associate VFX Producer on Walt Disney Pictures’ 'Lady and the Tramp' and in 2022 she was VFX Producer on Matt Reeves’ critically acclaimed 'The Batman'.
Sophie has recently wrapped on a career highlight: 'War is Over! Inspired by the Music of John and Yoko'. Another recent project was 'The Mountain', the feature directorial debut from acclaimed NZ actor Rachel House.
Hailing from Wellington, New Zealand, Sophie was educated at The New Zealand Film & Television School.
She has been a longstanding member of Women in Film and Television after being awarded the Robin Laing WIFT NZ Scholarship in 2007. Grateful for the opportunities that her WIFT membership provides, Sophie is on the board of WIFT NZ and strives to provide the same service to up-and-coming women in the industry.
