Michael Nieves is a Character Technical Director at Pixar Animation Studios, where he plays a pivotal role in modeling and rigging some of the studio's most beloved characters. With a rich background in both art and technology, Michael has made significant contributions to the field of computer animation.
Michael's artistic journey began with his undergraduate studies in Animation, focusing on character technical direction. His innate talent and dedication led him to pursue a Master’s degree in Game Development and Interactive Design, further sharpening his skills in digital arts.
Before embarking on his reputable career in animation, Michael served as an Electronics Technician in the United States Coast Guard. There, he developed a strong work ethic and a knack for problem-solving—skills that have proven invaluable in his animation work.
He started his professional career in visual effects for advertising at MPC in New York. His tenure there allowed him to refine his technical expertise and gain valuable experience in the fast-paced world of commercial animation.
Currently, Michael is a key member of Pixar's esteemed Character Modeling and Rigging team. He brings characters to life through his technical direction expertise, contributing to animated films that captivate audiences worldwide.
Outside of work, Michael's interests are as diverse as his professional pursuits. He remains deeply connected to the world of art, constantly seeking inspiration from various mediums. He's also passionate about health and wellness, finding balance through activities that nurture both body and mind.
