Ross McWhannel
Biography
Ross joined Wētā FX in 2011 as part of the Information Systems team and first worked as a Lighting TD on Peter Jackson’s 'The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug' in 2013.
In his current role in Wētā’s Special Projects department, he facilitates bringing together the creative needs of a project with real-time technologies. This can cover many forms such as linear content, immersive experiences and virtual production.
Ross was most recently CG Supervisor on 'War is Over! Inspired by the Music
of John & Yoko', but has worked on a swathe of high profile Wētā FX projects such as Matt Reeves’ 'War for the Planet of the Apes', Robert Rodriguez’s 'Alita: Battle Angel', Disney’s live action 'Mulan' and Marvel’s 'Moon Knight' TV series.
Born and bred in the UK, Ross was always passionate about movies and technology. Visual Effects was where those two worlds collided.
He has lived in Wellington, New Zealand for 17 years and is an active member of the Visual Effects Society (VES)
