Biography
David Scott's career in Animation and Visual Effects began as a digital artist in New Zealand in the late 90's as a pre-visualisation artist on the ‘Lord of the Rings’ trilogy. David has worked across a number of digital disciplines, from directing animated children's television to Lensing Zack Snyder's animated feature ‘Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole’.
Previously David was a concept artist on George Miller's Oscar-winning animated feature ‘Happy Feet’, and a Visual Effects Art Director for sequences on both ‘Superman Returns’ and Baz Luhrmann's ‘Australia’.
In 2011, David directed the Television Special ‘LEGO Star Wars: The Padawan Menace’ for Lucasfilm and The LEGO Company. The project premiered during Comic-Con in July 2011, and David was nominated for Australian Director's Guild and ACCTA awards.
Making the move into commercials, David directed all three Coca-Cola spots for Superbowl 2012, America's biggest sporting and advertising event of the year. The spots featured the return of the iconic Coca-Cola Polar Bears, and screened to an estimated audience of 111.3 Million viewers across the US. The campaign went on to win five Lions at the Cannes International Advertising Festival.
David returned to New Zealand in February 2013 to collaborate with Weta Workshop as the series director of Thunderbirds Are Go for ITV and Amazon Studios. The show was nominated for a Bafta award, and currently airs on Disney XD, ITV, Amazon Prime, NHK, Canal J, NPO, ABC, 9GO! and TVNZ.
David went on to be the Previs Supervisor for the live-action adaptation of 'Ghost in the Shell', and the previs and layout supervisor for 'The Lego Ninjago Movie'.
David recently wrapped as the Digital Cinematographer on the Oscar-winning animated-short 'War is Over! Inspired by the Music of John and Yoko'.
