Biography
Makai Smith is a Senior Product Manager at Glodon USA Software for R&D of new AEC applications.
He was previously Director of Product Management for the MicroStation product line, used globally for the design, construction, and operation of infrastructure and buildings, where he was responsible for product direction, software quality, technical support, content development, and professional services. Makai joined Bentley Systems in 2007 to launch Bentley GenerativeComponents, which pioneered the use of associative-parametric modeling in AEC.
Prior to joining Bentley, he was Director of Digital Fabrication for Kreysler & Associates, a custom architectural composites manufacturer near Napa, CA, known for innovative use of fiber-reinforced materials for buildings and sculpture.
Before jumping fences, Makai practiced architecture with the Pritzker-awarded firm, Venturi Scott Brown and Associates, in Philadelphia, PA. He holds a BS in Design from the University of Florida, and a Master of Architecture from Arizona State University, where he first became a SIGGRAPH student volunteer. He remains active in ACM SIGGRAPH: as Design Gallery Chair in 2009, Studio (now Labs) Chair in 2012, unified submissions on-site juror, and is currently a charter member of the Design Initiative ad-hoc committee.
