Freddy Chávez Olmos
Biography
Freddy Chávez Olmos brings over 17 years of experience in visual effects, spanning feature films, TV, and commercials. Born in Puebla, Mexico, Freddy studied special effects make-up in Los Angeles and later apprenticed under the legendary Dick Smith ("THE EXORCIST").
Based in Vancouver, Freddy has contributed to productions helmed by Guillermo del Toro, Neill Blomkamp, Robert Rodriguez, Tim Burton, and Christopher Nolan. He has worked with acclaimed VFX studios such as Double Negative, Industrial Light & Magic, Weta Digital, and Image Engine, collaborating on projects ranging from Academy Award and Emmy-winning productions including "Blade Runner 2049" and "The Mandalorian".
Freddy's directorial debut, "SHHH," garnered numerous international awards and reached 1 million views upon its online debut, earning praise from Guillermo del Toro for its distinctive visual style.
A member of the Directors Guild of Canada, Freddy directed for CW and Netflix's anthology series TWO SENTENCE HORROR STORIES. He also contributed as a writer to the renowned Mexican horror anthology series "LA HORA MARCADA" (2022).
Currently serving as Creative Director for Artificial Intelligence at Boxel Studio, Freddy is actively involved in AI discussions with DGC and UBCP-ACTRA in Canada. He serves as a consultant to directors, visual effects supervisors, and educational institutions on integrating AI and emerging technologies into their practices. Freddy is a sought-after guest speaker at venues including San Diego’s Comic-Con, TEDx, ACM Siggraph, Visual Effects Society, and Spark Animation.
