 Given a sequence of poses of a body in a fluid medium, we derive generaliz
 ed rigid body dynamics equations. These account for fluid inertia and drag
 -lift forces based on local approximations. This obviates the need for sim
 ulating the fluid itself and yet yields subtle fluid mediated motion effec
